The first section of the newspaper box to get touched with the Dremel magic wand was the front part of the coin box. I decided to cut off the large protruding coin return button along with the the coin return slot, where the coins come out of. Then I decided I would install a 5 inch Sony Playstation LCD screen in the front for displaying system and network properties. Once the cuts were all made and ground down to size, it came time to clean up the holes to look like the part was manufactured that way.
Dremel magic!
I started the cleanup process on this piece by sanding the whole part down very well with heavy grit sandpaper and an electric hand sander. Once everything was sanded, I used Bondo to smooth everything out, fill in unused holes, round over the coin return button hole, and fill in the coin return slot. After another good round of sanding, it
was time to primer this piece.
At this point I still had not revealed what my final color choicewas to my clanmates and everyone else, as they would only have tried to talk me out of it. Sure enough, as soon as I painted the first piece with the first coat of yellow, here came the question, "Hey man, WHY YELLOW???". Secure in my choice, I told them to just wait for the final results... After many coats of yellow and many days where my mouth should have been washed out with soap, the day finally came to clearcoat.
Finally after many coats of clearcoat, and sanding, and cursing, and sanding, and clearcoating, it came time for the finishing touches on this piece. I added rub on lettering around the power switch to clarify what it was for and add more black to the piece. I also added a 4 port USB hub to the front panel for plugging in computer items like a keyboard and anything else. I located it here so that it would be concealed when the hinged door was shut and also be protected during transport.
